After what's been implemented into GW1 during the last legs (overpowered PVE skills, title grinding obsessions, overpowered consumables) I'm all for the idea of GW2 simply for the hope that those mentioned features don't make it into GW2.

QFT. Anyone who thinks persistence is bad is just playing crappy games. A-Net made a rock solid game that has competed with the highest end mmo's from companies that have been around for years...and it was their first game ever...have faith

i like their choice to make an entirely new game.
making more and more campaigns would make it harder for a new player to join in, because they have to spend hundreds of dollars all at once if they want to get the full experience with all the expansions and campaigns.
also, with each campaign, the gamers spread more thinly. it would be discouraging to play thru the game and see like 0-5 people in each outpost.
i heard that an expansion was what killed everquest. i dont think this will happen with guildwars...the HoM will help prevent this.

it took some getting used to.
At first I was sad that we were "abandoned", and wanted GW to continue forever...
But i have realized that the GW world need some reinvention, which can't just be fixed with an expansion.
So now I'm looking forward to GW2 (which hopefully won't be a WOW clone), while I'm filling my HoM with stuff I want there.

Despite all the shortcomings of the original GW it contained more innovation than the rest of the MMO genre put together, so ANet has already earned my vote of confidence for GW2.
That, and no monthly fees. I'm a terrible miser and won't even consider touching a game that must be played 24/7 to get some value on your hard earned money.

I am not happy with the direction the game is taking.
Ever higher level cap and more grind is not revolutionary, it is the stone old principle of MMOs.
GW2 does not sound like the evolution of the initial GW principle, skill over time, no grind needed or even wanted and that.
It sounds more like the re-invention of the wheel and a back to standard vanilla MMO roots game.
I still hope ANet does better, but the gap between vision, implementation and overall quality became more frustrating with every game they released, GW:EN being more the salvaged remains of what *could* have been great than a great game itself.
I have lost a bit faith in ANet, they even fail at implementing the fine art of their concept artists properly. Do not even mention their bugged events, they seem unable to do it right every time they do an event, they even manage to bug slightly altered previous year events. But worst of all is game design and direction. The right hand does not seem to know what the left hand does at ANet.

Like an unwanted pregnancy, I don't like gw2. I'll embrace its coming, but I won't buy it. The dreamcatcher was gw1, much like Homeworld 1 and X Beyond The Frontier. I'd rather give them the time and pay the cash for them to recode gw1, than to develop a new game in reaction to the observed playstyle of a playerbase. Unless your playerbase quality consists of the majority of the posters in these threads :
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10280258
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10280532
then gw2 is just going to be another gimmick game for the masses.

The idea of a follow-up game sounds great to me, but I've read too many things about GW2 that don't appeal to me at all.

Yes I do love the idea to be able to interact the environment like burning trees etc (hell who WOULDN'T?), swim, climb, and the most 1337 of all: JUMPING!!
On a side note: another GW2 thread? Anet this is getting really sad; RELEASE NEW INFO!!!
Sorry Regina but as you took Gaile's post you're the one being targeted .

Definitely GW2. An extension campaign wouldn't have changed the technical and game limitations of GW1. Anet will hopefully learn from the mistakes on GW1 and technically improve their game (art department FTW), I'm pretty sure I won't be disappointed in 1-2 years time.

I am happy there's a "new" mmorpg developed by the same people that made GW and am happy that it is a no-pay-forever type as well.
but I cannot tell you if I will like GW2 as much as I did GW1 Beeecauseeee I have not play it yet.
but i am hopeful that it will be the ultimate mmorpg like one step above all the rest, somekind of "standard" that other mmorpg will try to catch up with.

GW2.
New engine, new stuff.
I think a new chapter would have ended up being a snorefest, purely because there probably isn't much else they can do with the current engine to keep those that have played for a long time satisfied.

i love the idea of a guild wars 2. I hope the level cap thing does cap at some point but if continues would give a cosmetic difference. I dont care what people are saying about transferring items; Anet doesnt have to do this, they didnt have to impliment a HOM. Its great they did though.
The people who spend hours crying about how are they going to complete their HOM on 8 characters should calm down. Why do you expect to get 100% off the unlockables straight away on every character. if your gunna, just do it on one
GW2 looks promising, Asuras are great in my opinion and it could be interesting to see the first few weeks of gameplay. I will feel like a veteran of GW1 but a total noob on GW2
i coudl get used to this persistant area thing, should be itneresting as much as i enjoyed the own area you got when you left an outpost. Map travel better be included, i heard some people talking about WOW and how you get around....ouch.. Mounts would be cool, if they incorporated both. Once you found a place you can map travel like before
one more thing, ASURAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! WOOO

Additional thoughts on gw2
The design of GW2 will probably depend, on whether anet intend to keep gw1 running for a year or more after gw2 arrives.
If they want to run with both games then it makes sense to make gw2 different enough to gw1 to grab some of the wow crowd and others dissatisfied with the way gw1 works.
If its a replacement to gw1 and they envision most of us moving over to the new game then I recon it will just be a bigger better version of what we have now.
I like the idea of swimming being added to the game as some mentioned, since it might give an underwater world to explore.
They could even add combat and spells to advance abilities in that area.

I'm happy with the idea of GW2. From looking at the server types, Age of Conan seems to have a similar set up in terms of a combination of persistent and instanced worlds, in as much as they claim you can play alone or group up in persistent areas.
Which is where I'll be going next, having cancelled my other subscrip game to make room on the bank statements... wheeeeee.

I, for one am happy to see it. I missed out on the beginning of GW, when everything was fresh and new for everyone, not just me. I have only been playing for six months or so, finished all story lines, moved on to HM and title hunting. It is getting stale for me, so someone who has been here from the beginning, I can see them being jaded.
I do hope they move more toward complete seperation of PvE and PvP, but I doubt they will. Under some notion that PvP is an "end game reward", as posted by so many. Hoping they seperate, but not holding my breath.
As far as the HoM, I have almost one Hall full (have hopes that this will transfer to all characters in 2, but doubt it). Not going to do another. I will not use whatever the reward is one my first character in 2, unless it is forced upon me. I will wait till I find the one character that will be my main, then use whatever bonus for it.
As far as the game is now. I still love playing it.

Yes, I like most of what I heared of GW2 so far. Especially the idea that it gets an (imo) more balanced approach of character development. (No longer skill-based only, also focus on char lvl etc.)
And of course the most important: No Timely Fees!
